Service Description

A gentle, nurturing, and therapeutic approach to yoga. In this busy modern world, our Restorative and Somatic Rest class welcomes you to explore your mind and body at a slower, more natural pace. With long-held, supported postures, you can cultivate the skill of conscious relaxation. The slower pace and the deep breathing exercises activate the calm side of your nervous system, creating a relaxing tone for the class that comforts your mind and body. This calming effect allows you to learn how to let go of unnecessary tension, how to relax the mind, and how to do less so that you can heal naturally, sleep more fully, and function better. Over time, this feeling becomes habitual to help you better face the highs and lows of life with ease and calm. We use props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, straps and pilates balls to support you to let go but you can use pillows, books, a scarf and other things you have available if you are practising online from home. Unlike other restorative yoga classes, we also integrate therapeutic yoga, trauma awareness, somatic techniques, and other body-mind practices such as myofascial release and meditation to cultivate a deeper sense of self-awareness that promotes deep rest and recovery. We live in a stressful and fast paced environment, Restorative, Somatic Rest is a beautiful antidote to this. It proves particularly advantageous when coping with the anxiety and stress of life, as well as illness, injury and fatigue. This practice offers you the gift of time, a chance to slow down and do less, a chance to welcome the parts of you that have been forgotten along the way to come back into wholeness. Through these practices you begin to befriend yourself, to do less rather than more, to be more kind to yourself on all levels, you begin to trust yourself again and feel safe in your body. Join us on the mat as we learn to rest, move slower and connect deeply. ** Please arrive at my place 10 minutes early to get settled. You will be joining others practising live online. There is limited parking around me but the number 1 tram is a few minutes walk away. If you decide to drive there is paid parking on the beach side of Beaconsfield Parade and free 1 hour parking on Danks street and other streets a block or 2 back from the beach. Please arrive with enough time to find a park.
