About the event
Join Jack Nunn, Ede and  I for an afternoon retreat of restorative, somatic rest focused on the soothing sounds of live cello music in the warm, quiet sanctuary of the new yoga studio in South Melbourne, folllowed my amazing homemade baking by Ede.Â
The cello has a particularly special place in many people's hearts and its low register and mellow tones is key to its relaxing effect.  The deep resonance of the cello creates wave patterns that are equivalent to brain pattern alpha waves (8 to 12Hz), these are common when we are meditating or practicing mindfulness and when we enter this deeply relaxed state we activate the calm side of the nervous system and  listen with our whole bodies.Â
Jack Nunn is an accomplished musician and has been composing music for cello and piano for twenty years. Â He has worked and recorded with a number of artists, including the Grammy award winning Basement Jaxx.
Jack will play cello live over recorded tracks which are a blend of calming, meditative piano – interwoven with cello, violin and sitar – creating rich and immersive soundscapes.
As Jack immerses you in these soothing landscapes I will guide you through a restorative, somatic practice and through simple but powerful breathing techinques. Scientific studies have found that pranayama( focused breathing) can decrease stress, anxiety and depressive symptoms, as well as increase positive mood, feelings of relaxation and focused attention. Â Â Â
Restorartive , Somatic Rest is  a progressive relaxation using gentle somatic movements that allows you to release physical tension and is incredibly soothing and nurturing for your nervous system.  Imagine going to a cello concert where you are laying in the comfort of supportive bolsters, props, blankets,  and guided into a deep state of relaxation designed to to help soothe and calm your nervous system and bring you into a deep place of ease and peace. Then sit and be guided through breathing techniques that have a direct effect on the parasympathetic nervous system and activates the vagus nerve.
Afterwards, Â we will gather for delicious baking from Ede and a cup of tea before we all drift off home in bliss!
A wonderful experience for you, you and a friend or loved one.Â
Please book soon as places are limited to 20.Â
